WHY STUDY ISLAMIC INHERITANCE?

It is a communal obligation upon Muslims in every community to have individuals who undertake the responsibility of studying, teaching and offering service to Muslims in matters related to inheritance and estate division.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) said: “Learn the Quran and rules of inheritance, and teach it to the people; for I shall depart.” [Tirmidhi]
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) said: “Learn the rules of inheritance and teach, for it is half of knowledge.” [Ibn Majah and Hakim]
Unlike other chapters of Islamic Jurisprudence which rely on extensive textual evidence and legal reasoning channels, Islamic inheritance is based on a handful of textual verses from which the majority of rules are derived.
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) said: “…This knowledge [i.e. rules of inheritance] shall be forgotten. It is the first thing that will be taken away from my nation.” [Ibn Majah]
